The
ASC-N mailing list is maintained by the Amateur Seismic Centre (ASC). The information contained within the messages
sent out on this list are intended for informational purposes
only and are preliminary in nature! They contain early estimates of
earthquake locations obtained from Indian and global seismological
networks for earthquakes in the Subcontinent. These data can be expected
to differ with final estimates available days or weeks later.
As of 13 April 2010, bulletins are issued for events
that were widely felt or particularly noteworthy for other
reasons within SAARC countries. Following large earthquakes,
aftershocks will be selectively excluded. In special cases, bulletins are
issued for
local or teleseismic events that do not fall in the
above criterion but produce macroseismic effects in SAARC nations.
Please bear in mind these messages (including updates) will
be issued several hours or even days after an event.
Prior to
April 2010, bulletins were issued for events of M>4.0 within
SAARC countries (M>3.0 for urban areas & agglomerations with
a population of more than 1-million). Bulletins were also be
issued for M>7.0 earthquakes occurring within the Indian
Ocean & the adjoining seas. In special cases, bulletins were
issued for local or teleseismic events that did not fall in
the above criterion but produced macroseismic effects in
SAARC nations.
