A moderate to strong aftershock struck Gujarat, India, on 28 January 2001 at 06:32 AM local time causing considerable panic in Gujarat, India. The earthquake had a magnitude of Mw=5.8. This is the largest instrumented aftershock of the Bhuj Earthquake on 26 January 2001.

The earthquake was centred 6.6 kilometres SW of Rapar (Gujarat), India,
26 kilometres W of Chobari (Gujarat), India,
37.5 kilometres NE of Bhachau (Gujarat), India,
38.8 kilometres W of Adesar (Gujarat), India,

69.3 kilometres NE of Gandhidham (Gujarat), India,
83 kilometres NNW of Morbi (Gujarat), India,
100 kilometres ENE of Bhuj (Gujarat), India
,
131 kilometres NNE of Jamnagar (Gujarat), India,
212 kilometres WNW of Ahmedabad (Gujarat), India.

This aftershock was strongly felt in many parts of Gujarat. At Rapar, a few damaged buildings collapsed. In Ahmedabad, it was felt for close to 30-seconds and sent people running outdoors. It was also felt at Jaiselmer in Rajasthan and as far away as Mumbai and Nashik in Maharashtra. In neighbouring Pakistan, it was felt in the Badin and Tharpakar regions of Sindh province.
