A light (M4.0-M4.9 range termed as "light") earthquake struck the Kachchh region in Gujarat, India, on 9 March 2008 at 16:40 PM local time. It had a magnitude of Mb=4.5 and was felt in parts of Kachchh and Saurashtra in the state of Gujarat, India as well as in adjacent parts of Tharparkar, Pakistan resulting in some minor damage in the epicentral region.

If you felt this earthquake please take the time to fill out a felt report questionnaire. Tremors from this earthquake were strongly felt in parts of Kachchh for close to 15-seconds. People were frightened and came out of their homes at Adesar, Balasar, Bela, Bhachau,  Chitrod, Dhori, Dhrang, Fatehgarh, Gedi, Jawaharnagar, Kunria, Ramvaav, Rapar, Samakhiali, Sumrasar and Wandhia. Minor cracks developed in many buildings at Bhachau. The shock was also felt at other towns in the region, including at Anjar, Bhuj, Damakda and Gandhidham. Light tremors were felt in western Kachchh at Lakhpat, Narayan Sarovar and Matanomadh. In Saurashtra, tremors were strongly felt at Jamnagar, Morbi and Tankaria. It was felt at Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Wankaner. Light tremors were also felt as far as Ahmedabad, Himatnagar and Surat. In Ahmedabad, it was felt by the occupants of high-rise buildings in Bopal, Narangpura, Satellite, Vastrapur and in other parts of the city; in a few instances, people went outdoors.

Tremors of varying intensity were also experienced in adjacent parts of Sindh province, Pakistan for about 15-seconds. In the Tharkarpar region, people ran outdoors at Nagarparkar after hearing thunderous noises from the nearby Karoonjhar Hills. Light shocks were felt in other parts of the same region, including at Diplo and Islamkot.
